Murwillumbah Colts Junior Rugby League hosts teams from u6’s through to u16’s as well as u14’s & u17’s Girls League Tag & Girls u13’s, u15’s & u17’s Tackle teams. Having Fun
Rugby League is about having a great time with your teammates. To maximise the smiles JRL have implemented some modifications for our younger age groups. Second chance rules, smaller fields and team numbers along with rules to ensure every player gets a fair turn with the ball and is excited for game day each week.
Player Development
From u6s through to u16s Rugby League contributes to the overall development of cognitive and physical skill development. Colts have consistently had our older boys selected for further development with the GC Titans Development Squads. 2022 saw 8 of our boys chosen for the 2023 Andrew Johns & Laurie Daley Cup competitions.
Safety is No.1!
Measures are in place to keep our future stars comfortable and focused on the game and activities. All Coaches, Referees and Trainers must hold current accreditation to ensure we have the right people fulfilling these roles. We also follow JRLs Code of Conduct and SafePlay code to remind participants of our expectations and standards on the field. They can be read here
Girls League Tag
It’s not just for the boys! Girls League Tag is a non-contact form of rugby League developed for girls. Our u15s team took out the Grand Final in 2020. In 2022 we fielded an u14’s team and two u17’s squads, u17’s Gold were Minor Premiers. In 2023 the u14’s blue team were minor premiers and won the Grand Final undefeated for the year, whilst the u17’s were also grand finalists. The competition is a great pathway for females wanting to go on and play in Senior Ladies League competitions.
Part of the Group 18 Rugby League Competition, we travel between Tweed Heads in the north and Byron/Lennox in the south.
Training is held on Tuesdays, (Wednesday U6’s & U7’s) and Thursdays from 4:30pm depending on the age. Game Days are Saturdays & our Girls League Tag Teams play on Friday nights.
